Category: System Configuration Issue
Context: Operating System
In order to ensure that the FMOS machine can send messages to the e-mail address associated with a user account, you need to confirm that you received the verification message.
FMOS user accounts need to have an e-mail address associated with them. This will allow FMOS to send important information to users. Notably, FMOS will send an e-mail message for account recovery purposes, such as a forgotten password. As such, it is critical to ensure that users will receive the e-mail messages FMOS sends to them.
When a user associates an e-mail address with his or her account, FMOS will send a message to that address containing a confirmation code. FMOS asks the user to enter that code, either using the Command Line Interface or the Control Panel. This ensures that the e-mail address was entered correctly, the outbound SMTP configuration is correct, and that the user has access to the mailbox.
Entering the Confirmation Code
There are two ways to confirm your e-mail address:
Click the Confirm E-Mail Address link in the e-mail message
Copy the confirmation code and paste it in the prompt on the FMOS Command Line Interface
Option (1) requires you to be able to access the FMOS Control Panel UI from the browser on your computer. The link uses the hostname of the FMOS machine that sent the message. If the name cannot be found in DNS, copying the link to your browser's address bar and replace the hostname with the IP address of the machine.
You can also navigate to the e-mail confirmation page in the FMOS Control Panel directly, for example https://hostname_or_address:55555/emailconfirm. Enter your username, e-mail address, and the confirmation code from the e-mail message in the form.
When you log in to the FMOS Command Line Interface, either using the local console or remotely using SSH, FMOS will present you with a prompt to type in the confirmation code:
A confirmation message has been sent to your e-mail address: d***********@f******.com Enter the confirmation code (press ENTER to skip):
Simply type or paste the confirmation code from the e-mail message and press ENTER.
Invalid E-Mail Confirmation Code
If you make a mistake entering the confirmation code, or if the confirmation code has already expired, you will receive this error message. Try re-typing the code, or use the clipboard to copy and paste it from your e-mail. If the code has expired, FMOS can send you a new one. Simply press ENTER at the prompt and select Resend confirmation e-mail. Once the new message arrives, enter the new code.
Confirmation Message Never Arrived
If you do not receive the confirmation e-mail message from FMOS within a few minutes, there may be a problem sending mail to your address. Verify that the e-mail address you entered is correct. If it is not, simply press ENTER at the confirmation code prompt and select Update e-mail address. Re-enter your e-mail address, and FMOS will send another confirmation message. The confirmation code in the original message will be invalidated.
If your e-mail address was entered correctly, the FMOS SMTP configuration may be incorrect. To verify or change it, press ENTER at the confirmation code prompt and select Try again later. Use the fmos config edit os/smtp command to update the SMTP settings. Remember to run fmos config apply after changing configuration settings.
