Classification: FMOS
Category: System Update Notice
Severity: Critical
Summary
The specified update source contains an unsupported update to version M.m.µ. This machine must be upgraded to M.m.µ before further upgrades are possible.
Description
This error is raised by fmos update when the specified update source, such as a DVD disc or image, USB flash drive, or URL, contains a version of FMOS that the system cannot install directly. No changes have been made to the machine, as the update could not proceed.
Impact
The specified update cannot be applied to this machine. To apply the update, the machine must first be updated to an intermediate version using a different update source.
Cause
Applying an update for which the upgrade path has not been validated can result in unexpected failures, causing extended disruptions of service. FireMon rigorously tests several FMOS upgrade paths in a large number of simulated environments and scenarios to avoid these issues. To ensure the stability of customers' deployments and prevent data loss, FMOS will refuse to install an update that does not have a validated upgrade path from the version currently installed on the machine.
Resolution
To resolve this issue and install the desired version of FMOS, the machine must first be updated to an intermediate version. The error message indicates the latest version for which a validated upgrade path exists from the current version. An administrator will need to download the latest release of the indicated version and apply that update to the system before proceeding. If the indicated version has reached end-of-life, the administrator may need to contact FireMon support to obtain installation media for it.
Multiple intermediate update steps may need to be applied to the system in order to complete the update.
