To verify that traffic is passing successfully to the data collector, complete the following steps.
Versions 9.2 and earlier
- Log in to the data collector.
- Put the DC into debug mode using the command fmos config -e to edit the config file and change or add this line: dc_log_level: DEBUG
- Commit the change using the command: fmos redeploy
- Use the following command to tail the DC logs. You can narrow the search using additional grep statements.
fmos logview -Tf /var/log/firemon/dc/DataCollector.log | grep -i 'received message from \[1.2.3.4\]'
*Note as of FMOS 8.23 the command to use is
fmos logview -Tf /var/log/firemon/dc/DataCollector_debug.log | grep -i 'received message from \[1.2.3.4\]' - Put the DC back into info mode using command fmos config -e to edit the config file and change the line to this dc_log_level: INFO or you can remove the line, the default info mode with then apply.
- Commit the change using the command: fmos redeploy
For version 9.3 you should use the Server Control Panel to change DC log level, these steps can also be performed on earlier versions.
- Log in to the server control panel by navigating to your application server's IP address on port 55555 (https://x.x.x.x:55555). The server control panel authentication credentials are the same as your CLI credentials.
- On the toolbar click SecMgr.
- On the menu page, click DC.
- Enable the Data Collector Root Log Level field box by clicking the status key.
- Select DEBUG from the list.
- Click Stage Changes and then Apply Configuration.
- Disable the Data Collector Root Log Level field box by clicking the status key.
- Click Stage Changes and then Apply Configuration.
If there is any doubt about the current state of the DC log level you can check with this command
grep rootLogger /etc/firemon/dclog.conf
The output will look like this for info mode.
log4j.rootLogger=INFO, RF
